Image Bank - Lines

Lines are used in Photography as a powerful method to improve the composition of pictures and in order to emphasise on elements in a picture; for example, distance and height in a photograph. There are different types of lines such as vertical, horizontal, diagonal, etc and they can all be used for different purposes in pictures. Lines create a mood and leads viewer's eye through the picture.  The formal element of line can be combined with other elements such as colour or shadows as shown in the pictures above to further enhance them and really show them off. Lines can also be guiding as it may guide the viewer through the photograph, ensuring they focus on what the photographer intended them to focus on.
